El Niño · drinking water
How much drinking water to store
Count the people in your home. Pick the weather and the number of days. We show how many bottles to buy.
Brownouts can also stop electric water pumps. A few days of stored water keeps the family safe either way.
Water per person, per day
Normal-day amounts come from the Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes 2015 (PDRI). PDRI is the daily-needs guide from DOST-FNRI, the government's nutrition institute. It uses average Filipino body weights.
Hot-day amounts add sweat lost in El Niño heat, 32°C and up. That extra is our planning estimate. It is not an FNRI figure.
| Person | Normal day (PDRI) | Hot El Niño day |
|---|
PDRI water includes water from food. Filipino meals with rice and soup cover part of it, so these totals carry a safety margin. For outdoor or heavy work, add about 1.5 L per person on hot days.
Signs someone needs more water
Drink more when sweating heavily. Watch for dark urine, dizziness and headache. These are guidance figures, not medical advice. See a doctor if signs get worse.
